Okay, that’s probably not what’s happening in this photo, but that title probably piqued your interest. It is a bizarre photo, nonetheless and we felt compelled to share it.
What Is Going On In This Bizarre Photo of Calvin and Grace Coolidge with a Dog?
Not surprising. I think the dog is “Rob Roy”, Grace Coolidge’s dog when she lived in the White House. In fact, the dog was painted with her in her White House portrait!
That IS the greatly beloved ROBROY! Mrs. C. had a great many pets, even a raccoon named Rebecca and more… She was a gentle, lady-like soul who had a penchant for decorating her bed with dolls and was just a delicate personality. She enjoyed attending baseball games. Then during her stay at the White House, her life was greatly shattered upon the death of one the Coolidge family’s sons. He had been playing tennis – developed a blood blister on his foot, which became infected – and the lad died. (A man in my hometown was one of the pallbearers at the funeral.) Mrs. C. went into serious mourning and a dark depression.
Soooo, seeing this joy filled moment of the smiling couple is especially nice.
Pretty……the dog I mean.
