This photo shows the old United States House of Representatives in a time when laws were passed, senators would verbally spar on the floor, and spend the evening socializing over whiskey and cigars. The good old days.

Dear Ghosts, Your caption is right but the introductory text is wrong: the photo above is of the House of Representatives’ Chamber. The portraits of Lafayette and Washington are a dead give-away, not to mention the hundreds of miniature desks: the Senate in 1908 had only 92 members. The skylight was was replaced when the chamber was renovated in 1949-1950, which may have been the same time the desks were replaced by rows of connected chairs.
