Here is an old advertisement for real estate in Columbia Heights. This was printed on Saturday, November 12th, 1921 in The Washington Times. Using the consumer price index, $6,300 in 1921 equals $78,100 today. Though if you look at this simple online calculator, you’ll see the estimates vary wildly.

Right down the street from Central High School is where my father was born. (In a house there) He went to that school, after graduating form Holy Comforter right down the street. I have a film of my father walking the old neighborhood telling us all the great things that were there, including the home on the corner that was also a bakery. They even made bread for the White house.
