Silver Spring was a sleepy, but growing suburb north of Washington in the 1920s. It was named after an actual spring, in which there was silver mica (yes, a silver spring).

We posted some cool stuff about Silver Spring many years ago, including a 1927 photo which you shouldn’t miss. This advertisement below was in The Evening Star on Saturday, October 17th, 1925. You’ll notice at the bottom of the advertisement E. Brooke Lee and P. Blair Lee. The Blair and Lee families are two of the four families inextricably linked to the history of Silver Spring.
