1885 Dedication of Washington Monument

Below, you’re looking at the dedication of the Washington Monument in February of 1885, with crowds huddled around the base to admire the new tallest structure in the world.

The title of tallest in the world wouldn’t last long, as the Eiffel tower would surpass it in 1889.
