I’m busy watching playoff baseball (sadly, not our Nats) … cranking through the posts for …

  • Publius Washingtoniensis

The Memorial was completed in 1922, and the Reflecting Pool in 1923, so that provides a “baseline.” The cars passing by on 17th Street in this “grainy” photo look rounded enough to be from the era of the late 30s through the early 50s. Otherwise, it’s difficult to pinpoint the era. .

The two bridges across the Pool linking the tempo buildings on either side were installed about 1942. They lasted until at least the late ’40s, if not into the 1950s.

Given the rounded shapes of the cars, the absence of the two bridges, I’d say this photo was taken late 1930s or very early 1940s, before the war.
