Now this is cool. And, it’s probably something that makes you a little nauseous, paying that ridiculous $2,300 in rent today. Check out the handy Washington Times pocket directory of apartments from 1914. Some of the buildings are still around (most notably, The Cairo), so you can do your rent comparisons.

336(red door)-338(white door) Adam St NE is still here.

Seeing those prices makes me sad. Rent around DC is ridiculous.
God, this makes me so jealous and mad. The most expensive apartment on there is $87.50 a month, which is 2012 dollars is just shy of $2,000/month. But that’s for a SIX-BEDROOM apartment! At the Cairo!
Man, talk about rent outpacing inflation…

I lived on Pennsylvania Ave. in 1966 in a very nice 1 bedroom, Living room, dining room, kitchen with walk in pantry, full bath, and very clean, for $87.50 a month, and that was high!!
