1921 Map of Bellevue Highlands, Southwest D.C.

Take a look at this old map, showing Bellevue at the bottom of the District, or I should say, what would become Bellevue. The map has the area listed as Bellevue Highlands, and surely there were quite a few farms still in the area. Read up on the last farm in the city; we posted a story about it some time ago. Click on the map below to zoom in and see more details.

My home was at what was then Nichols Ave and First St SW in the lower right corner of the map. I never heard the area referred to as Bellevue Heights but rather Congress Heights which was further north up Nichols Ave.

I remember an area over there called Bellevue Heights, when DC Transit used to go past Hadley Hospital….We didn’t call it that though….Everything past the skating rink was Bald Eagle to us…..(I said all of that to say that I remember hearing of Bellevue Heights, but I don’t know exactly where it was)
