I’ve been receiving an increasing number of emails from GoDCers in the past few weeks, so thanks for reaching out! And, sorry to those expecting a speedy reply. It’s getting a little challenging to keep up with the inbox these days, but I’ll eventually get to it.
Here’s a nice note we received last week from GoDCer Matt in Alexandria. It’s always nice when someone attaches some interesting old photos to their notes.
Just wanted to drop you a line and compliment you on your blog.
However, because a reporter friend of mine shared it with me yesterday around 5pm, I have not gotten much done since!
I am known for sharing vintage DC/Alexandria photos with my Facebook friends, and have many I’d be happy to share with you.
I have attached a few for your enjoyment and possible future story ideas:
- Hoover Field – the predecessor of DCA, was located at the foot of the 14th Street bridge (where the Pentagon Parking lot, etc. is now located)
- Third Street Tunnel Construction under The Mall – two photos
- Construction of the Case Bridge
- Redwood Tree House – Was located on The Mall prior to 1930
And let me know if you ever would like to write about anything in Old Town Alexandria as I have a few hundred scanned photos of varying quality.
Best of luck with the blog and let me know if I may ever be of assistance!
Thanks for sending these photographs along Matt. If you have any story ideas or some really good old photos, send those along and we can do a little research.
